The Oilers prepare line up for the Championship Game

Let's be honest, sometimes Summer hockey can be a little dull. And, sometimes off-season hodge podge hockey can reflect a selfish side of the game. On Sunday, YHH was served up some very exciting hockey that made the 90 degree weather outside seem cool.

In the Championship game of the Hometown Hockey Summer Classic, the Flames outlasted the Oilers 6-4 in a dynamite back and forth game for the title. Prior to the game, teams were introduced individually to smoke and lasers. A full national anthem with a color guard was presented and Canadien mounties escorted the championship trophy onto the ice before face-off.

We still aren't sure was more entertaining, the details around the game, or the game itself. The players lived up to their of the bargain. They moved the puck to space and made good decisions with the puck. The Oilers made the most of their opportunities scoring 3 goals in the first two periods, all on juicy rebound goals. After 2, they lead the Flames 3-2.

Logan Seward celebrates at Center Ice with the Flames after his GWG

After a break and a loud rendition of Sweet Caroline, the Flames came out on fire in the third. Wiz Wyatt Player of the Year Finalist, Logan Seward showed great skill scoring on a fancy move that got the goalie down and he slid it home to tie it. A minute later, STMA standout Defenseman Karson Raymond went end to end and found 5 hole to give the Flames an unexpected lead with 7 minutes to go.

After a quick timeout by the Oilers coaching staff with five minutes to go --- a major chain of events ensued. In the final 90 seconds of the game, Zakary Goodwin tied the score for the Oilers 4-4. Before the fans could buckle up for the final minute of regulation and overtime, Seward took matters into his own hands and scored 10 seconds after the face off to give the Flames the go ahead goal and eventually a 6-4 win.

Ten goals in 15 minutes of hockey proved that hockey is always better than pomp and circumstance.

The Nordiques beat the Leafs in the A Championship Game 5-3 in another great display of speed and teamwork.
