The Penguins entered Monday's game against the Bruins with a 2-0 record with nice wins over Kings and the Wild. Facing the Bruins to go 3-0 would be a tall task, the Bruins were 1-1 and likely a little hungry after losing to league leader Bolts 3-0 Thursday.
The Bruins came out flying taking a 5-1 lead after the first half. Luke Loheit and Adam Harvey scored seven seconds apart to give the B's a lead they would never let go. Loheit, Aaron Frenkel, and Josh Luedtke each had two goals for the black and gold as they went on to defeat the Pens 8-2. Luke Newman and Bryce Brodzinski added a goal for the Pens.
The Bruins will face three Metro teams this weekend in Moorhead; Flyers, Pens and Kings and one North team; the Devils. The Pens will look to get healthy taking on three Metro teams: the Wild, Bruins, and Flyers with a taste of the North playing the Devils Saturday night.
Coming into Monday's game against the Flyers, the Lightning had already shown signs of offensive power - on Monday they were even more impressive scoring 8 goals and registering a ton of scoring opportunities. Lead by Trevor Janicke, Robert Christy and Jack Perbix - the Lightning look to be the Metro team to beat so far.
Christy got the scoring started for the Bolts, he finished the night with three points. Christy's best buddy from St. Paul, Matt Gleason, had two goals in the first half to keep the game close for the Flyers at 6-3.
Flyers leading scorer Killian Kiecker-Olson would make things interesting scoring to make it 6-4 in the middle of the second half. But league scoring leader Trevor Janicke added to his point total giving the Bolts an insurance goal at 7-4. Janicke's goal was a highlight reel variety taking the puck end to end beating a defenseman/goalie combo before they knew what hit them.
The Bolts went on to win 8-4. Janicke, Perbix and Christy finished with 8 total points on the night. Mike Koster had 2 assists from the blue line for the Flyers. Koster has been a star for the Flyers through three games.
The Wild got their first win of the BEL season downing the winless Kings 7-6 at the Schwan's Super Rink Monday night. 2014 Wiz Wyatt Winner Ben Brinkman lead the Wild with 2 goals and an assist. One of the goals a pretty power play one timer after he jumped the play. Brinkman continues to be one of the most impressive players in the BEL so far.
Monday's game was an exciting game that was back and forth action and some big hits. Edina's Peter Engleking had 2 goals and an assist to lead the Kings, who couldn't quite get the "next goal" on Monday. Roseville/SSM star Nik Norman added 3 points for the Wild as they held on to win 7-6.
Nate Bifulk from Roseville provided fans with a couple big hits for the Wild and the hit of the night came from Mankato's Nick Wieben on a pretty hip check for the Kings.
With a shootout loss last week, the Wild improve to 1-1-1 and 4 points heading into their trip to Moorhead this weekend where they will take on two Metro rivals; Pens and Bolts and Northern teams; Devils and North Stars. The Kings will look to get in the win column when they take on three Metro teams; Bolts, Flyers and Bruins and also one Northern team the North Stars.
