Tourney MVP Landen Gunderson scores Sunday
Riley Grimm from CC scores Sunday
Each year the Velocity 3v3 tournament is a good indicator of who the top Squirt A teams will be for the coming year. It is also a time for that pretty good first year Squirt player from a year ago to say, "hey, it's my turn..." To no one's surprise the top four teams in the event were Edina, Chaska Chan, Mahtomedi and Osseo Maple Grove. Edina won their pool going 4-0 edging Chaska Chan 19-13 on Saturday to claim a spot in the title game. Osseo Maple Grove had no trouble in their pool, breezing by every team scoring two to three times more than their opponents. The quadrupled up on Mahtomedi beating them by three touchdowns 28-7 on Saturday. Sticking with the football theme, the Zephyrs came back Sunday and claimed third beating CC by a touchdown 20-13.
Edina scores first in the Championship Game Sunday
In the Championship game, Edina got an early lead and was able to hold it until OMG settled down and took control. Both Goalies, Jack Roach (OMG) and Robbie Clarkowski (Edina) each made impressive Penalty Shot saves to keep the score very low through the first half. OMG lead 10-5 halfway through and never seemed tested by the Hornets.
Edina could only close the gap to less than five once the whole latter part of the game. Landen Gunderson finished with five goals and Grant LeNeau was a rock on defense for the Leafbirds to help them to a 18-9 win. Gunderson is one of those players who was "good" last year and will be great this year for OMG. He plays very hard on both ends of the ice, has great hands and loves the game. Returners Gunderson, LeNeau and Beau Blashack are three of the reasons OMG will be one of the top five teams again this year at Squirt A.
Grant LeNeau is a great two way Defenseman
Tommy Cronin from Edina
Jack Sweeney, Mahtomedi - great hands and vision for a ten year old, will be one of the hardest players to stop all year.
Tommy Cronin, Edina - hard worker, has patience and makes plays with puck.
Cayden Casey, Elk River - another goal scoring machine from Elk River - good hands and great shooter.
Teddy Manlove, Minnetonka - lead the event in goals scored, has great quickness and goal scoring ability around the net.
Carter Wishart, Chaska Chan - big time goalie who made some remarkable saves all weekend.
Grant LeNeau, OMG - great skater who plays with great determination on every shift, fun player to watch.
Jimmy Clark, Edina - always around the puck and always seems to score - no matter the event, no matter the competition level.
Jimmy Clark from Edina is not a stranger to the scoring sheet
