Edina native headed to dream school in '19

Grant Silianoff verbally committed to play college hockey at the University of Notre Dame on Saturday. His pledge to the Fighting Irish is the second such 2019 commitment from a top Minnesota player in the last month. Silianoff and Maple Grove Freshman Trevor Janicke recently both chose to play for Jeff Jackson and the Fighting Irish this Fall.

Silianoff, from Edina, plays for the Shattuck St. Mary's U14 Bantam team and is one of the Sabres top two scorers so far this year. At every level, the '01 birth year skater has been a tremendous goal scorer dating back to his days as a Squirt and PeeWee in Edina where his teams only lost two games in four seasons. His commitment marks another great Edina player including one related to Silianoff to play for the Fighting Irish.

Silianoff told YHH on Saturday that he'd dreamed of playing for the Irish since he was a little kid. His Cousin Ryan Thang, another Edina product, starred for the Irish. Thang had over 100 points in four seasons in South Bend from 2006-2010. "I was fortunate to visit and watch Notre Dame when I was five years old...I have always dreamed of playing there and never thought that my dream would become a reality and wear a gold helmet."

Grant was very thankful to so many people who have helped him throughout his young career, "I want to thank my mom and dad for being there for me and being my biggest fans and sacrificing their time and money to let me play hockey. Also to the rest of my family and all of my friends who come to watch and support me."

Silianoff went on to thank all of his coaches who have played a big role in his development. "I would also like to thank Keith Jungels for being a great coach and always being there for me during my early years of hockey and Bernie McBain and the Machine Organization for getting me where I am today. Jeff Johnson my PeeWee Coach taught me some valuable lessons, too. I'd also like to thank my Shattuck Coaches Nightengale and Carpentier for helping me with school and devoting their time to help me not only as a hockey player but as a young man."

Good luck to Grant this year at Shattuck and in the future at Notre Dame!
