Grant Docter scored for Minnetonka in Pool Play
After 56 games, hundreds of exciting goals and thousands of highs and lows...the Bauer World Invite has widdled the field down to eight teams. Three of the top ten teams in the nation (CHI Mission/3, Team Illinois/6, and Compuware/10) and the best team from Minnesota (Minnetonka/1) reamain. The other four teams (Madison Caps, STL Blues, Team WI, Belle Tire) all have earned some well deserved respect this weekend.
1. Compuware swept their pool and beat Burlington, ONT to make the Quarters
2. Team Illionois won their pool on a tiebreak and then beat Jersey Hitmen in the Sweet 16.
3. Madison Capitols took second in their pool, but beat local favorite Blaine 3-2 Satrurday evening in Bensenville.
4. CHI Mission took their pool in the morning and then beat the NJ Avalanche Saturday night.
5. STL Jr. Blues might be playing the best hockey of any team at the '01 level. Won their pool and then beat a very good Oakville team 4-1.
6. Belle Tire may be the hottest team in the field, they are 4-0 on the weekend -- they beat CYA 4-1 Saturday...they will face #3 CHI Mission Sunday morning.
7. Team Wisconsin won their pool and then won for the second time Saturday beating Halton Saturday nigth 4-0 to advance.
8. Minnetonka got a late goal by Grant Docter to tie the game and then the GWG by Jack Bayless to help the Skippers to a 2-1 overtime win over #2 Colorado. Tonka will face Compuware in the final 8.
Tonka will have to find a way to stop Michael Mancinelli on Sunday morning
U14
Blaine: Had a great weekend in Chicago...won their pool, going 3-0 on Friday and early Saturday. Lost to Madison Caps 3-2 Saturday night.
Edina: After going 1-2 in pool play, finished strong by beating a very good Alaska team 5-3 Saturday night.
Minnetonka: advanced to Quarterfinals Sunday morning (see above)
Minneapolis: Won their Pool in the Nexus Divsion, defeated Sioux City on Saturday night to qualify for final 8.
U16
MN Blades: Won their pool going 3-0 with a couple nice wins...lost to CHI Misson in Sweet 16.
MN Magicians: Went 2-2 on the weekend with wins over Affton and Meijer - had two compeitive losses to CO Thunderbirds and CYA.
