The teams are picked and the schedule is set. Ready set (insert record scratch), wait!
Another Winter season of youth hockey season is upon us. Are you ready for the five month grind? Here are six helpful tips as life’s speedometer is about to hit triple digits.
- Set your iCal Feeds – Every team calendar uses iCal feeds on their team’s website. With three clicks, the data from you Team Calendar can be automatically populated onto your personal calendar saving you trips to the Team Site looking for updates. Click here for easy instructions from Sport Ngin.
- Push for Rest – Some coaches, parent groups and Team Managers crave “more hockey” – a growing body needs both physical and mental rest. It is important to be a proponent for fewer games and practices. Players will perform better with a fresh body and mind.
- Love One Another – It is a privilege to play hockey and many that play the game are with great means. Suggest a service project for the team to engage with the community and bond as a team.
- The 28 Rule – All athletes should follow the 28 Rule, drink eight glasses of water every day (stay hydrated) and get eight hours of sleep (stay rested).
- Play Shinny – structured practices and games are necessary for hockey development. One of the most overlooked tools for growth is unstructured recreation games at a nearby back yard, pond or park.
- Get Some Boots – Don’t wait until the first snowfall to figure out all of the boots in the house are either too small or 10 years out of date. Warm feet are essential for cold rinks.
