Jack Bayless snipes Saturday for Tonka
Bobby Brink had four points including three goals to lead Minnetonka to a 6-2 win over Wayzata into the Blue Ox Championship Sunday against Cloquet. When given time and space, Brink is as lethal a weapon you will find at any leve in Minnesota. The Skippers got the scoring started when Jack Bayless out raced two Wayzata defensemen and beat Wayzata goalie Trevor Wong to set the tone of the game. Ryan Mulrenin scored both goals for Wayzata in their losing effort.
Jon Baker had an unforgettable day Saturday for Cloquet
Jon Baker had as good a day a player could have for a skater. On Saturday afternoon he scored in overtime to send his team to a win over OMG and into the semifinals. Then Saturday night, he trumped his afternoon performance scoring a hat trick sparking a four goal surge in six minutes for the Lumberjacks. They went on to defeat northern rival Moorhead 5-1 to advance to the championship Sunday against Minnetonka.
Trailing by a goal for the third straight game, Baker got the Lumberjacks going on a pretty one-timer on a great feed from Jake Huhta. Then just minutes later the Jacks took control scoring three goals in two minutes including a pair 10 seconds apart by Baker and Landon Langenbrunner. Langenbrunner's on a breakaway top shelf backhand.
The Jacks will face Minnetonka for the second time in three weeks - they faced each other on Sunday of the Centennial Preview with Tonka winning 4-1.
Tune in Sunday on YHH at 2:30 to see this instant classic.
