Northern Lakes star Caiden Kjelstrom scores on a penalty shot Saturday
Saturday John Spalj Arena in Crosby hosted Bantam A, Peewee A, and Squirt A action. If you are a fan of goals and up and down the ice action this was a great place to spend the afternoon. In the three games thirty seven goals were scored and four different players recorded hatty's. Ben Toumbley of Greenway, Isaac Young of Fergus Falls, and Beau Engstrom of Northern Lakes recorded hat tricks to help lead their teams to victory. Caiden Kjelstrom of Northern Lakes recorded the other hat trick of the day however it wasn't enough to produce a victory in the closest game of the day.
In Bantam A action Greenway took control early to skate away with a 10-2 win over Northern Lakes. In Peewee A action, we saw Fergus Falls outscore Northern Lakes 8-6. The home association would salvage a win to avoid being swept on the day with the Northern Lakes Squirt A team defeating the Detroit Lakes Lakers 8-3.
Greenway took control early with a quick goal by Jace Nyberg and Ben Troumbly started his quest for a hatty moments later. Troumbly's goal put Greenway up 2-0 just minutes into this game. The Lightning's Dylan Messinbrink tallied midway through the first to get the Lightning within one but that is as close as they would come. Troumbly would score once more in the first to put Greenway back up by two and start a run of five straight Greenway goals.
Zechariah Trenkenschuh's goal would end the Greenway string of goals however after two Greenway was in control with a 7-2. lead. Greenway would light the lamp three more times in the third as they skated away with a 10-2 win over the Lightning.

Isaac Young scores one of his three goals Saturday for the Otters
Fergus Falls Isaac Young and Northern Lakes Caiden Kjelstrom accounted for seven of the fourteen goals scored as Fergus Falls outlasted Northern Lakes in a Distric 15 Peewee A matchup. Isaac Young put the Otters up when he found the back of the net off a nice pass from Noah Tarczon. This early lead would not last long as Hunter Nybakken's power play goal would tie the game at one. That would be it for first period scoring and the period would tied at one.
The second period was about as exciting as it could get with seven goals being scored. Similar to the first period, Isaac Young and the Otters got things going first with Caiden Kjelstrom and the Lightning responding to even things at two. Northern Lakes was able to take its first lead of the game on a Kyler Couture goal. That lead would not last long though as Young and his Otters would go on a three goal run before another Lightning goal would close out the scoring for the period. After seven second period goals Fergus Falls held a 5-4 lead.

The Lightning came out flying to start the third and were able to tie the game at five when Caiden Kjestrom scored his second goal of the game on a nice wrist shot from the circle. This is when things got controversial. After Kjelstrom's goal Otter goalie Ian Stumbo skated to his bench for some instructions from his coach. While this was going on both teams took their positions at center ice for the ensuing face-off. The puck was dropped and the Lightning won the face-off with Caiden Kjelstrom shooting the puck into the empty Otter net, drawing cheers from Lighting fans and frustration from the Otter bench. After discussion the goal was disallowed and the score would remain tied at five.
Fergus Falls took advantage of this call and rattled off three quick goals to go up on the Lightning. The Lighting would score once more on a penalty shot by Caiden Kjelstom after being hauled down on a breakaway. In the end the Otters would prevail 8-6 behind Isaac Young's four goals.
Isaac Young stole the show Saturday
Many of the Northern Lakes squirts spent the earlier portion of Saturday afternoon at the rink watching Bantam and Peewee action. They must have been paying close attention to the fact that the team that started fast and scored first won both of the earlier contests. Beau Engstrom scored quickly on a breakaway and Drew Paulbeck followed with a goal on a nice wrist shot to give the Lightning an early two goal lead. Benjamin Hines would tally for Detroit Lakes to cut the lead to 2-1 however the Lightning were able to respond finish the first with a 3-1 lead.

The Lightning came out determined to not have a let down in the second. They played solid defense limiting Detroit Lakes opportunies and scored twice to finish the period with a solid 5-1 lead. Detroit Lakes put forth a great effort trying to battle back in the third. Benjamin Hines opened the scoring to give the Lakers hope but Zach Ehnstrom's two goals in the period and Beau Engstrom's third to give him a hatty was too much for the Lakers to overcome. End result was a 8-3 Lightning win.
