Auggie Moore scores the first of his two goals Friday for Benilde
Benilde St. Margaret's beat No. 1 ranked Eden Prairie 6-5 in overtime Friday night at the St. Louis Park Rec Center. The No. 2AA ranked team got a power play goal from Zach Risteau 1:17 into the extra session to lift the Red Knights to the exciting win.
In an amazing turn of events, Risteau went from goat to hero in a matter of a few minutes. Down 5-4 with under five minutes to play, he took an ill-advised penalty that put the high powered Eagles on the power play looking to finish them off. "When I took that penalty late, I thought it was over, that was a horrible play," said Risteau. But just seconds into the man advantage, Auggie Moore stole the puck from Eden Prairie's Michael Graham and went in all alone and beat Eden Prairie goalie Shawn Durocher to tie it at 5-5. "I was so happy, I went crazy in the penalty box when Auggie scored," said Risteau.
Nolan Sullivan scores one of his three goals Friday
Light amusement compared to the excitement he must have felt compared to being mobbed by his teammates and adoring fans on the glass after his wrist shot ended the game in OT.
The real hero of the game was Moore, who was all over the ice scoring two big goals for the Red Knights, their first and last in regulation. But his greatest contribution came in the fourth period. Camped down low, he attracted and beat a defender which opened up space for Risteau to beat Durocher high. "Auggie was huge all game for us, he has been a leader from day 1...he deserves all the credit tonight," said Risteau.
For the Eagles, often overlooked junior winger Nolan Sullivan scored three goals Friday and played great on all sides of the ice. In a game that could have gone either way, Sullivan's play was hard to miss. He was effective on the power play, penalty kill and in tight spots.

Up Next: The Eagles have five days off without a game before heading to Braemar for some holiday cheer, where they will face Elk River, Grand Rapids and Edina in successive nights. The new number one team in the state will try to run their record to 8-0 when they host No. 5AA Blaine on Tuesday. "We know that if we don't do what we do best, Blaine will come in here next week and knock us on our back side," said BSM head coach Ken Pauly.
