Sophomore Blake Brandt scores first Varsity goal in overtime to lift Lakeville North to win Saturday

Blake Brandt scored the game winning goal for Lakeville North Saturday as they beat No. 4AA Grand Rapids 4-3 in overtime. Brandt made his first varsity goal an important one, as the Panthers struck first in the extra session to send the Thunderhawks home without a win. 

The Panthers struck first scoring two goals, both by junior Ryan Poehling. The first round draft pick of the Lincoln stars scored first on a pretty pass from Henry Enebak on a two on one feed. Minutes later, Poehling scored again on a great pass from Taylor Schneider on the power play. Schneider while skating behind the net setting up the play, but quickly fed the puck to Poehling he jammed it past Grand Rapids' goalie Zach Stejskal. But before the Panther fans could sit down, Gavin Hain scored on a wicked wrist shot that cut the Lakeville North lead to 2-1. The '15 YHH Bantam Player of the got loose in the left slot and beat Panther goalie Buzz Eigner on his glove side.


Max Johnson scores for Lakeville North Saturday

In the second period, the teams traded goals. First, Bowling Green commit Max Johnson beat Stejskal on the backhand - the goal came after a penalty was called against Grand Rapids, during the delay the Thunderhawks could not gain possession for at least a minute. Eventually after that long, Johnson created space in the slot and beat beat Stejskal. The Thunderhawks would answer when Jonah Bischoff would find nylon on a wrist shot on a power play. 

The third period was a good back and forth game with the two teams battling for the all important next goal. Rapids tied it late when Jason Koehn tipped in a shot from the point to send the game to overtime. In the extra session, Poehling made a pretty move to create an opportunity for the Panthers. On a second chance rebound, Brandt snuck it past Stejskal for the win.
