Look for Jefferson to take the SSP tourney

South St. Paul Tournament
Winner: Bloomington Jefferson > Eagan
Darkhorse: St. Paul Johnson
Schwan's Cup - Gold
Winner: Eden Prairie > Edina
Darkhorse: Wayzata
Schwan's Cup - Silver
Winner: Breck > Mahtomedi
Darkhorse: Eastview
A huge cluster of great games this week in high school hockey - the Schwan Cup will set up some great games at all four levels. Princeton and Minnehaha at the Open level is a game to see. Anoka and Blake have a great show down in the Bronze division - we like the Tornadoes to win it. In the Silver division we like Breck to win it - some really good first round games including Eastview and Mahtomedi...the winner of that game will face the Mustangs. The Gold division has some juicy first round games including Edina and St. Thomas Academy and Hill Murray and Wayzata. No. 2AA Eden Prairie is our favorite to take the gold, but several top teams will challenge.
Princeton Tigers a darkhorse in the Schwan Open
Schwan's Cup - Bronze
Winner: Anoka > Hopkins
Darkhorse: Orono
Schwan's Cup - Open
Winner: Greenway > Minneapolis
Darkhorse: Princeton
YHH will get their first look at Greenway in the Schwan Cup - the Raiders have Kole Kalisch, Tayler Lantz and Grant Troumbly. They will get tested by Spring Lake Park in the first round. Which Panther team will show up, the one that beat Rochester JM or the one that lost to Irondale?
Edina "A" deserves a look in the Bantam A Edina Invite
Bantam AA: Edina Invitational
Winner: Edina > Wayzata
Darkhorse: Sibley
Bantam A: Edina Invitational
Winner: Orono > Edina
Darkhorse: Lakeville North
Bantam B: Edina Invitational
Winner: Wayzata (Blue) > Edina (Green)
Darkhorse: Edina (White)
A lot of top teams in the Edina Invite tourney at all three levels. Edina could make a sweep of all three levels. Their strongest chance at a title will come at the Bantam AA level where the No. 2AA Hornets should skate to a title after losing last year in the finals. No. 2A Orono is our favorite in the A level, but they will have a number of challengers including three other top ten teams (No. 8A Lakeville North, No. 9A Edina, and No. 10A Wayzata).
Jackson Bisson and the Hornets look to unseat #1 OMG in the Edina Invitational
AA: Edina Invitational
Winner: Edina > OMG
Darkhorse: Stillwater
AA/A: PeeWee Showdown (Bloomington)
Winner: Apple Valley > Jefferson
Darkhorse: Eastview
It appears Edina and OMG are headed for their third game of the season in the Edina Invite...both teams have won one. Apple Valley looks to get their second tourney win in Bloomington this week....they will get a challenge from two improving teams Jefferson and Eastview.
The boys at MVI are anything but peewees
A: Edina Invitational
Winner: Mounds View Irondale > Edina
Darkhorse: Coon Rapids
PWB: PeeWee Showdown (Bloomington)
Winner: Hastings > Jefferson
Darkhorse: Minneapolis (Purple)
PWB: Edina Invitational
Winner: Edina (White) > OMG (Black)
Darkhorse: Park Cottage Grove
Some great games at the PWA and PWB levels this week. No. 7A Edina and No. 3A Mounds View Irondale have played once already this year with the Hornets coming out on top. We like MVI to spoil the party at Braemar. The PeeWee B tournaments are going to be great - Hastings is the favorite in Bloomington, they need to be careful with Jefferson and Minneapolis. The Edina Invite is a small field - but it is loaded with four YHH staff ranked teams (Edina White/Green, Park Cottage Grove and their friends Osseo Maple Grove). This is a toss-up...leaning toward Edina (White).
Landen Gunderson and OMG look to defend their home tourney title.
SQA: Edina Invitational
Winner: Chaska Chanhassen > Edina Green
Darkhorse: White Bear Lake
SQA: OMG Squirt Extravaganza
Winner: Osse Maple Grove > Rosemount
Darkhorse: Stillwater
SQB: OMG Squirt Extravaganza
Winner: Chisago Lakes > OMG (White)
Darkhorse: OMG (Black)
A few nice Squirt tournaments to feast on this week as well. The Edina Invite has a few nice teams including the host White and Green Hornets. We like Chaska Chan to win, but anything can happen at this level. OMG looks to defend their home tourney title. They will likely face Rosemount (who they beat in the Burnsville semi-final) in the championship. On that day, the Leafbirds were too much for the Irish. The Squirt B division in Maple Grove will be some great hockey. OMG always has a good crop of SQB teams. They will challenge, but Chisago will likely overpower them all.
