The Blackhawks, Advanced Mite Champs
The Blackhawks edged the Naughty List 7-6 in overtime to claim the Pond New Years Challenge title at the Advanced Mite level on Saturday morning at The Pond in Rosemount.
Solid goaltending by the Blackhawks’ Cody Niesen and The Naughty List’s Carter Mayfield kept the score very low in three-on-three action, each coming up with clutch saves time and time again.
Tyler Hess scored a game-high four goals for the Blackhawks, who defeated The Naughty List 14-10 in Pool Play.
Maso Kraft and Trey Newgard each scored two goals to lead The Naughty List.
The Blackhawks’ Cullen Potter scored a goal and added an assist in the championship win, and earned Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after finishing the weekend with 22 goals and 27 points.

MN Chill The Pond 3v3 PeeWee Champs
The Minnesota Chill outscored the Muskies 6-0 in the final 6 minutes to win The Pond 3v3 New Year's Challenge on Thursday in Rosemount. Damon Furuseth scored four goals and added a couple assists for the the Chill. Chill forward Trey Fechko, a forward who recently moved to Minnesota was named the Tournament MVP.
Big Blue left Santa's Little Helpers helpless Thursday out chancing and outscoring them 13-6 to win the Squirt Division. Drew Stewart lead the way for Blue with 5 goals, three of which were carbon copies of each other...beating Santa goalie Celia Midtbo on a backhand forehand move each time. Midtbo was solid all day for Santa, stopping several barrages by Blue all day long. Evan Villagomez was named the tournament MVP for his play in the nets for Blue.
Big Blue The Pond 3v3 Squirt Champions
The Squirts and PeeWees played one game each and their playoff pairings are now set. Big Blue is the clear favorite in the Squirts, the Skippers have played really well so far. Santa's Helpers and the Ice Men will have a good battle in the semifinals. The game of the day was The Chill and the Muskies battling it out in the PeeWee Division...the Chill won 14-10, newcomer Trey Fechko lead the way for the Chill. They will face the Bolts in the semifinals and the Muskies will face the scrappy Ice Devils.
The Advanced and Intermediates each played a game Tuesday. There are three Intermediate teams with a perfect record..Yeti, MN Phantoms and Polar Bears. All three are racking up gaudy numbers so far. Cole Cheeseman leads the Intermediates with 16 points. The Advanced level just got started with four winners so far. A few tight games so far. Mason Seubert had 10 points for the River Rats.
The Pond's New Year's Challenge kicked off Monday with some big numbers being racked up at three levels. The PeeWees, Squirts and Intermediate Mites all got in two games and a ton of goals.
The Muskies and Chill both won a pair of games at the PeeWees -- those two teams are loaded with all stars. The Muskies had PeeWee eligibles Jackson Hallum (Sibley Bantam AA) and Jonny Meiers (Eagan JV), they lead the event in scoring after two games. They face the Chill Tuesday who have new Minnesotan Trey Fuchko and not so new Minnesotan Blake Polifka...those two had their way with opposing goalies Monday.
The Squirts have an early leader - Big Blue out of the gates 2-0. The Blues moved the puck well and dominated on day 1. Stay tuned, the other three teams will have something to prove.
Things are way to early for the Intermediate Mites...there are four leaders after day one (MN Phantoms, Yeti, CCHA, and Polar Bears).
