Hilltoppers pick up another big AA win Saturday

Troy Shold scores for Marshall Saturday

Six different players scored goals for Duluth Marshall as the Hilltoppers skated to a 6-3 win over the Brainerd Warriors in a 7AA/8AA match-up on Saturday.  The visiting Hilltoppers took a 2-0 lead after one period and responded to every Brainerd goal with a goal or more of their own to insure their would be no Warrior comeback.

With the temperature below zero outside it took several shifts for the action inside at Essentia Health Sports Center in Brainerd to heat up.  The Hilltoppers got things going first when Tyler Pedersen beat Warrior goalie Brady Mick with a wrist shot from the top of the circle.  Later in the first Troy Shold would score a pretty backhand goal to give Duluth Marshall a two goal lead heading in to the period break.

The offense definately warmed up in the second period as both teams would combine to light the lamp five times during the period.  Jack Evans scored a rebound goal to trim the Hilltopper lead to one and get Brainerd back into the game.  The Hilltoppers were not about to waste the two goal lead they built in the first and goalie Makaio Goods did his part by collecting an assist moments later on Keelan Golat's breakaway goal that  again put Marshall up by two.  Peter Lenz's snipe pushed the Marshall lead to three before Brainerd's Gavin Andres tallied to cut the lead to two once again.  The Hilltoppers refused to let the Warriors gain any momentum in this game and pushed the lead back to three when Lane Krenzen scored from the point.  After the five second period goals the teams would head to the locker rooms with Marshall up 5-2.

The third period would not provide the same offensive out put as the second.  Eric Stout finally broke the scoring drought and gave Brainerd hope with his rebound goal late in the third.  Brainerd would not get any closer and Levi Stauber would collect an empty net goal off a Peter Lenz pass to guarantee a6-3 Hilltopper win.
