Park Cottage Grove took out Elk River Saturday 5-0 on a 28 save shutout by Conner Nelsen at Elk River Ice Arena. The Wolfpack got two goals by first year star Nick Pierre and a goal and an assist by Garrett Parker in their win. The No. 7AA team in the state showed great resolve defending a 19 shot barrage by the No. 4AA Elks in the second period to truly earn the win.

Pierre got the scoring started for PCG when he turned a mini-breakaway into a full breakaway with his speed and beat Elk River's goalie Carter Kluge glove side. A minute and some change later, the Pack capitalized on a chance in front of the net and Garrett Parker poked it home to give them a 2-0 after 1. Shots on goal were in favor of PCG 6-5. 

The story of the game was in the second period. Elk River powered by puck control and hustle controlled the play, but could not score. Connor Nelsen was remarkable standing on his head stopping two flurries by the Elks and a point blank save on Elk defenseman Joe Greniuk. In the second, Nelsen turned away nearly 20 shots and the Wolfpack staved off two of the four Elk power plays. 

Heading into the second intermission, the Elks had a 24-10 shot advantage and a lot of confidence that they could still win. Park headed to the locker room - of course after congratulating Nelsen profusely - looking to regroup.

The third period was vintage Minnesota PeeWee hockey, both teams came out flying and really took it to the opposing defense and goalies. The all important "next goal" never really came until the Wolfpack broke the levy in a big way. Scoring three goals in 90 seconds - Clayton Beaurline beat a screened Kluge to make it 3-0 and then Pierre scored on a breakaway to put the game 4-0. Then Joe Palodichuk completed the scoring for the pack to cinch the game 5-0.
