Max Jelavic had two goals for Southeast Sunday
No matter how you slice it or name them, the Southeast Elite team from Fort Myers, Florida can really play. Over the years they have been called Team Zoom Tan, Florida Alliance and now Southeast Elite. No matter what they are called they are usually in the winner's circle in the end.
Last Summer, many of the same kids on Southeast Elite came to Minneapolis and won the American portion of The Show and came a goal shy of winning the championship. This year, they came to the DHI Cup and made hay again in the state of hockey. Winning six games in three days, including wins over two of the best teams in the state (MN Blades and MN Machine) in successive days.
Jackson Graber scores for Southeast Saturday against the Blades
On Saturday night, Southeast took out the number one ranked MN Blades 3-1, scoring two quick goals in the second period giving the defensive minded Florida boys a lead they would not relinquish.
On Sunday they took out Elite Hockey Performance in the semifinals 4-2 in the semifinals before they met the Machine who beat a very good DHI Manitoba team.
In the championship, Florida got both goals from Max Jelavic. The first on a pretty one timer that beat Machine standout goalie Christian Manz top shelf. The Machine battled back and forth with Southeast but could not get a break and beat Florida standout Jacob Fowler. Fowler does a great job of controlling the puck and challenging shooters. On Sunday, the Machine got very few second chances.
Jelavic would add his second goal of the game when he scooped up a loose puck in front of the net and tucked it home to give Florida a two goal lead they would not let go of. Fowler and the bigger Southeast defensemen were able to keep the Machine in neutral.
Jacob Fowler shuts the door on Maddox Fleming Sunday
Southeast
Gavin Brindley - has great speed and skill - plays with passion and energy on every shift. Can play any of the the three forward positions.
Jacob Fowler - one of the better goalies his age, no matter what part of North America. Reminds YHH of Todd Scott when he was this age.
Max Jelavic - the kind of player that can just turn it on and help his team on both ends of the ice.
MN Machine
Maddox Fleming - protects the puck well and makes plays - good shooter who couldn't buy a goal Sunday.
Owen Hendrikson - was the best player for the Machine Sunday. Very aggressive on both ends of the ice.
Charlie Stramel - power forward that creates a lot of chances for himself with his size and speed.
