Isaac Howard scores Friday night at the Lumberyard
Day three saw our NOW Prospects make the transition from the Olympic-sized ice sheet at the University of Minnesota’s Mariucci Arena to the three-on-three confines of the LumberYard in Stillwater.
The morning session featured the final two full-ice scrimmages, with Team Gray edging previously unbeaten Team Maroon in a 2-1 thriller. Team Gray finished the three days of full-ice contests with a 1-2 record, while Maroon ended with a 2-1 mark.
Team Gold pulled away from Team White in the second half of the second scrimmage en route to a 11-7 victory. Team Gold scored five goals in the second frame to emerge from Mariucci with a 2-1 record, and Team White finished 1-2.
From Minneapolis it was on to Stillwater, where each of the four teams split into two squads to battle in high-scoring three-on-three action.
Gold 1 and Gray 2 kicked off the evening with a raucous 15-15 tie, followed by White 2’s nail-biter victory over Maroon 1 by a score of 18-16.
Maroon 2 downed Gray 1 22-14, and White 1 tied Gold 2 13-13 in the final two games of the evening.
GAME 1: GRAY 2, MAROON 1
In the closest and arguably most thrilling game of the Mariucci sessions, Team Gray snuck past Team Maroon 2-1.
Gabriel Rasmussen kept up his strong play with a goal for Team White, while Aiden Welch came through in the clutch with the game-winner. Team Maroon’s Tyler Haskins padded his NOW Prospects Combine-leading eight points with his seventh goal in three scrimmages.
GAME 2: TEAM GOLD 11, TEAM WHITE 7
Connor Kurth scored a hat trick, including two goals in the second half to lead Team Gold to the win. Brody Lamb, Nicholas Pierre and Nathan Jaglo each scored two goals apiece for a balanced Gold squad that seemed to get stronger with each game. Not to be outdone, Drew Fisher scored a goal for Team Gold and handed out four assists for a game-high five points.
Ethan Sillerud scored two goals to lead Team White, with Dominick Bailiff, Brooks Bond, Isaac Howard, Isaac Leeman and Damon Furuseth all scoring once in the loss.
