Jackson Blake gave Southwest fans a lot to celebrate last weekend

Josh Giuliani scores GWG for Roseau Sunday

The quality of play at the Major level this year was incredible. Unlike most all-star games that feature "me first" play, teams made great plays and moved the puck for great playmaking. One such play that stood out was on Saturday when Roseau trailed Southwest with three minutes to go and Josh Giuliani traded passes with Cole Spicer entering the zone luring in the Indian defense, Spicer slid a quick pass through the crease to Dominic Thomas for a pretty tic-tac-toe finish.

Spicer was named MVP Sunday by YHH for his athletic play, but ultimately was given most consideration for the decisions he made with the puck. The 2004 birth year from Grand Forks was impressive all weekend for the Rams.

Vivian Jungels, Girls MVP

Last year Vivian Jungels made her presence felt loudly proclaiming there was no one better than her winning two shootouts for the Wolverines and a championship in the PWC. This year she lead Southwest like a maestro...tapping on her wand dictating the play on every shift as the Indians beat Jefferson for the title. Jungels was named MVP by YHH again this year.

The Indians and Jaguars battled twice Sunday, with the Jags taking the morning game. The Jags were lead by Stillwater's Lexi Huber who had a goal and an assist.

Jimmy Clark, Minor MVP

The Minor story begins and ends with the Southwest Indians. Outscoring their opponents 39-15, Southwest was never really tested the whole weekend. Johnson gave them a game each time for a spell, but game's end the Indians were on cruise control. Lead by MVP Jimmy Clark, Gavyn Thoreson, Landen Gunderson and tourney leading scorer Jack Sweeney - the Indians are the best team the PeeWee Challenge has seen in the short three year history.
