Andrew Reyelts stops this point blank shot for the Rails Saturday

Northern Lakes' standout Taylor Berg was on fire Saturday for the Lightning

The Proctor Rails Squirt A team made the drive to Crosby on a chilly Saturday afternoon for a double header with the Northern Lakes Lighting.  The two teams split  games several weeks ago in Proctor with the Lightning winning a 2-1 game and Proctor winning the second game 5-2.  In this round the Rails would win a low scoring first game by the margin of 3-2 and the Lightning would outscore the Rails 7-6 in the nightcap earning the split for the weekend and the season.

The Lightning struck first in game one with Taylor Berg beating Proctor standout goalie AJ Reyelts with a wrist shot from the circle to give the Lighting the early advantage.  Dylan Davidson would answer for the Rails with a power play goal and moments later Nolan Okstad would slam home a rebound goal to give Proctor a 2-1 lead after a evenly skated first period.

The second period of play was similar to the first with both teams trading scoring chances however Lightning goalie Nigel Desantp and AJ Reyelts of Proctor would not budge allowing no goals and the teams heading to the locker room with Proctor still leading 2-1.

The Rails would start the third with more energy than the hometown Lightning and extended the lead to 3-1 when Dylan Davidson lit the lamp with his second goal of the game.  The Rails had the edge for the majority of the third but the Lightning would not go quietly.  Taylor Berg made things interesting with a nifty wrap around goal to draw the Lightning to within one.  Both teams utilized their timeouts in the waning minutes of this game to draw up strategy and the Rails would prevail 3-2 in this defensive battle.

Game one of this doubleheader was a defensive battle.  Game two was the complete opposite as the Lightning prevailed 7-6 in a scoring slug-fest.  Logan Verville scored four goals to pace the Lightning while Wyatt Mineheine lit the lamp three times for the Rails to try and keep pace.

Verville wasted little time getting the Lightning off to a fast start tallying two of his four goals in the first five minutes putting the Lightning up 2-0 early.  The Lightning would push the lead to 3-0 and looked as if they would skate away with this one when Wyatt Mineheine would get the first of his three to put the Rails on the board and cutting the lead to 3-1 after 1.

Taylor Berg got the Lighting off to a fast start in the second getting his fourth goal of the day in the first minute of the second pushing the Lightning lead back to three.  A pretty goal by Jack Martin would give the Lightning a four goal lead until back-to-back goals by Tanner Ross and Blaine Boysen would cut the lead to 5-3.  The Lightning would add another one and finish the period with 6-3 lead.

Logan Verville pushed the Lightning lead to four when he tickled the twine for the fourth time of the game to start the third period.  The Rails would not go away...Wyatt Mineheine and two quick goals and another from Tanner Ross would trim the Lightning lead to 7-6 with six minutes to go.  The Rails rally however would fall short with the Lightning earning a 7-6 split in the Saturday doubleheader and on the season.
