Just one day after Christmas, dozens of talented Squirts are back on the ice, partaking in the breakneck pace of three-on-three hockey. 

The Pond in Rosemount is playing host this week to the New Year's Challenge, a tournament with levels ranging from Mini-Mites to Squirt "A" teams.

Each team at both Squirt levels features talented players, and in the next few days we look for several of these playmakers to separate from the rest of the pack. 

Throughout the week, YHH will closely follow the Challenge, providing pictures, recaps and scoring leader graphics. 

The Elves emerged from Day One with a 2-0 record in SQA play, defeating Playmakers and Hat-Tricks 17-12 and Team Warrior '07 13-5. 

Aside from the effective offense, goaltender Cody Nielsen is the rare net minder who stands out in 3-on-3, as he made impressive saves throughout both victories for the Elves. 

The Mistletoe Drags and Team Warrior '06 enter day two 1-0, while Playmaker and Hat-Trick finished 1-1 on the day. 

Holidangle, Team Warrior '07, MPH and the Shakopee Sabers will all start the second day of competition with 0-1 records. 

In a much smaller pool, the Li'l Rascals sit atop the standings at 1-0, just ahead of Tommy Chicago Gold who stands at 1-1. 

The Eagles are also 1-0, with Cote's Irish Cronies bringing up the rear at 0-2.

Isaac Berbena leads the division with seven goals for Tommy Chicago Gold, followed by four different players totaling four goals each.
