Athletic Bantams Show off their talent in 4-2 win

Orono's Blake Messenburg celebrates Carson Bantle's goal - he had two assists Saturday

The No. 3 ranked New Jersey Colonials headed west to face No. 5 Shattuck St. Mary's this weekend in Faribault for a three game series. On Saturday, the Sabres grabbed game one with a 4-2 win over the Colonials. Peter Reynolds, an '03 player from New Brunswick, Canada had two goals and an assist to lead the Sabres to a come from behind win.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first period, the Sabres spotted New Jersey two goals in the second period. A period dominated in shots and zone play by the Colonials. Chase Bradley and Matt Coronato scored a minute apart in the second as the Colonials took control of the game. If it weren't for the heroics of Minneapolis native Kiron Morioka in goal, the New Jersey lead could have been double.

After a resurface, the home team matched New Jersey with great passing and energy.  Matthew Samoskevich banged home a rebound to tie the score and Reynolds grabbed his second goal of the game on a what appeared to be a mid-air deflection to give the Sabres the lead for good midway through the third. Onalaska, Wisconsin's Carson Bantle would add an insurance goal for the Sabres late to secure the win at 4-2.

New Jersey super hero Alexandros Gaffney

Niholas DeSantis, New Jersey - has an illegal substance in his skates...super fast with terrific hands. Had to put camera down a few times to watch him - electric player, is one of the best Major Bantams we've seen this year.

Alexandros Gaffney, New Jersey - oh wow, love at first sight. Great speed, hands and tenacity. The Harvard commit reminds YHH of NTDP skater Sean Dhooge when he was a Major Bantam.

Blake Messenburg, SSM - very aggressive when he has the puck, keeps the defense honest - has a very high compete level. Has 38 points for the Sabres so far this year.

Kiron Morioka, SSM - was one of the best Bantam goalies in the state last year for Minneapolis (with PeeWee eligibility)...showed why coaches love having him. He's the type of goalie who will steal games for you.

Peter Reynolds, SSM - great skater, was faster with the puck on his stick than without. Hard worker with great hands. Staggering to think how good he will be next year for the Sabres.
