MN Meltdown: Championship Sunday

The Ice Caps Aren't the only thing Melting

Another Sunday in the spring, and another slate of quality games featuring quality teams squaring off in all corners of the metro for Showcase Hockey glory, this time in the Minnesota Meltdown Tournament. 

Gradient AAA may have set the template for utter dominance, rolling to the 2003 Division title by outscoring opponents 40-9 in five straight wins. Chaz Lucius highlighted the 9-2 victory with a Hatty and three helpers for Gradient. 

The beasts of the Southeast edged Steeldogs Teal in the 2004 final, riding a two-goal performance form Tournament MVP Gavin Brindley and solid play from Aaron Schwartz and Anthony Kahl to sneak past the Steeldogs 4-3. Jackson Graber and Schwartz each added a goal for Southeast Elite.

Red Army AAA knocked over upset-minded Velocity White 4-1 to claim the 2005 title, with Isaac Johnson, Bauer Murphy, Grady Magner and Trevor Moe all tallying one goal each. Gavin Jensen dished out a pair of assists for Red Army in the win. 

 Stratton Maas scored twice and added an assist to lead Miracle Gold to a 5-2 win over Gentry Astros Gold in the 2006 championship. Tyler Shimon, Caden Speidel and Cayden Alphin all chipped in one goal apiece to claim the crown.

Despite a 4-3 loss to Southeast Elite, Steelodgs Teal forward Nick Pierre stood out.
