Rain on the Independent Parade

A rare May monsoon struck the metro area on Saturday, drenching parking lots and funneling the typically roaming packs of kids inside for the some of the hottest action of the spring season.

The rain didn't bog down the Minnesota Blades at any level, as the boys in grey cruised to first place finishes in the 2006, 2005 and 2003 Divisions. The three teams have combined for a record of 10-1-1 record while outscoring opponents 60-26.

Nick Pierre, suited up for the '04 Blades in the 2003 Division, racked up five goals in a 9-0 win over the MN Icemen. Joining Pierre in the "Hatty" category is Jacob Garski of the '06 Northern Wings, who scored three times in a 9-4 win over the Jr. Bison.

Cruising to first in the only division without a Blades squad was MN Steel, entering bracket play with a 3-0-1 record in the 2004 Division.

Isaac Howard and the '04 Blades have sped past their '03 Division opponents.

'03 New Generation had their fans hooting and hollering on Saturday.
