Opening Games Set The Tone

Through eight games, the Big Pumpkin has loved up to its billing as an action-packed forway into the Halloween season.

Big scores and big performances highlighted the first docket of games, with Blaine's Austin Burnevik turning in the most statistically impressive resume of the day so far with five goals in the Bengals' 8-4 win over the Fargo Freeze Blue.

The host Moorhead Spuds were less than gracious in a 4-1 win over Bloomington Jefferson to open the day, followed by Lakeville North and Wayzata emerging victorious over Elk River and Brainerd respectively. The Panthers clawed their way past the Elks 6-4, while the Trojans marched through the Warriors 7-2.

White Bear Lake toppled the towering Minot (ND) Wolves 7-4 in the first game after the clock ticked past noon, with Blaine's aforementioned win over Fargo Freeze Blue, Lakeville South's triumph over Eden Prairie and Sibley Area's defeat of Fargo Freeze Black rounding out the early session.

Colin Reller backstopped the Panthers to a 6-4 win over Elk River on Friday.

Luke Miller goes top shelf for Wayzata on Friday.

Aiden Akins and Nolan Red celebrated Akins' second goal in Friday's win over Minot (ND).

Austin Burnevik scores one of his five goals to put Blaine up 5-2 en route to a 8-4 win over Fargo Freeze Blue.

Players to Watch

Austin Burnevik, Blaine

Burnevik stampeded his way to five goals to open the tournament for the Bengals, showing off his tenacity around the net and his balanced skating.

Dawson McCann, Minot (ND)

McCann possesses a rare blend of size and skill that set him apart from the pack. Creates chances out of thin air with his skating ability.

Ty Tuccitto, Stillwater

Four goals against a quality Moorhead team is nothing to overlook, nor his Tuccitto's stickhandling and nose for the net.

Ian Ness, Moorhead

A pure skater with quick feet and great balance, one of Ness' greatest weapons is his agility.

Despite falling to White Bear Lake, Dawson McCann of the Minot (ND) Wolves was a standout on Friday.
