Hawks Fly, Hornets Sting

The point totals continued to climb as the Big Pumpkin entered its second half of day one, with Hermantown scoring perhaps the most goals in tournament history with a 15-0 win over Lakeville North. Zam Plante led the charge in the win with a hat-trick and three helpers, a performance complemented by Matt Kauppinen, Sam Swenson, and Max Plante, who all totaled five points.

The Hawks victory came on the heels of Stillwater and Moorhead’s back-and-forth tilt, which ended with the Ponies on top 9-5. Ty Tuccitto racked up four tallies in the win, which sends Stillwater to the quarterfinal round where they will face Hermantown.

Chaska/Chanhassen skated past Wayzata 7-1 after being down 1-0 after the first period, and Rosemount cruised to a 9-0 win over Blaine, powered by a team effort that included seven different players netting a goal.

Woodbury also relied on a balanced attack in its 5-0 win over Farmington, as four players marked the scoresheet with goals. Jake Fisher led the parade with two tallies. The Predators will face Edina in the next round, which won its game 10-2 over White Bear Lake behind a four-goal, seven-point performance by Jimmy Clark.

Closing out the evening, Osseo-Maple Grove thumped Lakeville South 8-1. Meeting the Leafbirds in the quarterfinals will be Andover, which slapped a 9-3 victory over Andover in the nightcap. Gavyn Thoreson led the Huskies in scoring with five assists and a goal in the win.

Players to Watch

Jimmy Clark, Edina

Clark tallied four goals and handed out three assists in the Hornets' 10-2 win over White Bear Lake. Never caught with his head down, Clark leads the tournament in scoring despite playing just one game.

Tanner Henricks, Woodbury

Henricks' puck patience and vision allow him to kill penalties effectively and find his teammates for scoring chances throughout the game.

Ty Tuccitto, Stillwater

Capable of taking over games by himself, Tuccitto helped power a Ponies offense that scored nine goals on Friday with four of his own.

Charlie Stramel, Rosemount

Stramel is not just big, he uses his size to create scoring opportunities and dominate his one-on-ones. Excels in puck-protection situations.

Gavyn Thoreson, Andover

Passing is Thoreson's specialty, and he played his game to the hilt on Friday night, finishing the Huskies' win over Sibley Area with five assists.
