The Andover Huskies 12A team hosted four teams (Anoka-Rogers, Edina, North Wright County and Orono-Westonka) for a set of games to kick off the season. Each team showed a great deal of promise, giving hockey fans a lot to cheer for over the three days. 

The premier matchup of the event featured old friends Edina and host Andover. Both teams came in undefeated and with a lot of history between the two. Each team has a state title at 12A the last two years and each title came at the hands of each other.

Andover got the best of the Hornets Sunday winning 4-1, outdueling the defending champs in the corners for most of the first two periods. Edina got on the board in the third frame when Eliza Fraley jammed home a loose puck to cut the Huskies lead to 3-1. The Andover blue-liners Isa Goettl, Josie Hemp, Elly Klepinger and Cailin Mumm were the difference down the stretch controlling the play with puck possession and precision passing.

Despite losing to Andover and Edina this weekend, watch out for Orono-Westonka.  If you stare at their scoresheet long enough it won't take you long to find Sydney Leonard and Greta Pioske - those two combined for 15 points in four games. But this team has a lot of great supporting players. Defender Mae Grandy has size and plays with aggression and forward Alexandria Vonholtum has some great skill up front.
