Alyssa Watkins scores for Proctor-Hermantown in the Mirage's 5-1 win over Thunder Bay (OT) on Sunday.
After going down 1-0 in the first few minutes of Sunday's title game against the Thunder Bay (OT) Queens, the 15UA championship appeared poised to be a seesaw battle between equal opponents.
Proctor-Hermantown spent the rest of the game proving otherwise.
The Mirage scored four times over the next two periods and tacked on an insurance goal in the third frame for an impressive 5-1 win over the Queens at 3M Arena at Mariucci on Sunday afternoon. Prior to securing the 15UA crown, the Mirage thumped the Blackcats 9-0 in the semifinals, and finished the tournament outscoring opponents 34-2.
Overtome heroics highlighted the 12UA championship, as Orono-Westonka snuck past Apple Valley-Burnsville 3-2 in the extra session. Both teams posted shutouts in the semifinal round, with Orono-Westonka downing Anoka-Rogers 3-0 and the Firehawks blanking Brookings (SD) 4-0.
The 10UA final also came down the wire, with Anoka-Rogers eking out a 2-1 win over Apple-Valley Burnsville in a back-and-forth tilt. Anoka-Rogers completed its championship run surrendering just one goal, outscoring opponents by a 17-1 margin.
