The Cream Rises to the Top

Eden Prairie will not get a chance to repeat as Spirit of Duluth champions in the Bantam AA division.

The Eagles finished pool play with a 2-0-1 record in Pool A, the same mark that Centennial finished with after the two teams tied 1-1 on Saturday afternoon. Due to the tiebreaker of goal differential, the Cougars will move on by the razor-thin margin of 7-6.

Also moving on from the Bantam AA crop will be Hermantown, Minnetonka, and Prior Lake. Like Centennial, Prior Lake is a beneficiary of the second tiebreaker, having skated with Pool D rival White Bear Lake to a 2-2 draw earlier in the day. With a goal differential of 10 to the Bears' four, the Lakers move on to the semifinals.

Hermantown has been the most impressive team thus far, cruising to a 3-0 record while outscoring quality opponents 18-4 in the process. Joey Pierce led the Hawks to a pool-clinching 4-2 win over Edina on Saturday, scoring a pure hat-trick.

The Peewee division featured no such complications in terms of tiebreakers, with all four teams advancing with the best record in their respective pool.

Wayzata took Pool A with a 2-1-0 record and will be the only pool-winner with a loss. Osseo-Maple Grove, Hermantown, and Edina have all advanced with spotless 3-0 marks, and have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 63-13.

Wayzata, which owns a goal differential of one, will face Osseo-Maple Grove on Sunday morning, and Hermantown will take on Edina at the same time. Both games will be played at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center.

Joey Pierce of Hermantown scored a pure hat-trick in Saturday's win over Edina.

Players to Watch

Matt Beaty, Prior Lake

Joey Pierce, Hermantown

Scored a pure hat-trick as a defenseman against Edina, showing off his speed and ice vision in numerous rushes from his own zone.

Drew Holt, Eden Prairie

A regular on these lists, Holt possesses a lethal shot with an incredibly quick release.

Lleyton Roed, White Bear Lake

A true workhorse, Roed is typically involved in most of the Bears' scoring plays in addition to being a mainstay on the penalty kill.
