Chaska downs Lakeville North in overtime, Holy Family Catholic, Moorhead pick up second wins.

Game One: Chaska 4, Lakeville North 3 (OT)

Junior defenseman and Minnesota commit Mike Koster scored with 2:46 to play in overtime to lift Chaska to a 4-3 win over Lakeville North to kick off the second day of the Tradition Hockey For Life Classic in Prior Lake on Friday. 

Lakeville North (3-6-1) took a 2-1 lead after the first period, with Luke Spanier and Shane Griffin tallying goals, with Koster’s first goal of the contest sandwiched between the Lakeville North scores. Penalties marred the first period, with the Panthers taking three trips to the box and the Hawks (7-3) making two. 

Nick Olmscheid tied the game for Chaska late in the second period, and both teams scored in the final stanza to send the game to overtime. Junior forward Spencer Schneider scored for Lakeville North in the third, and sophomore defenseman William Magnuson tied the game for Chaska with a shot from the point with just 14 seconds left to force the extra session.

Game Two: Holy Family Catholic 3, Benilde-St. Margaret's 2

In a game that featured 17 penalties between the two teams, Holy Family Catholic scored late in the third period to earn a 3-2 win over Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the second game of the day.

The Fire (8-2-1) scored once in each period to secure the win, with senior forward Joe Hankinson scoring the eventual game-winner at the 12:56 mark of the third period. 

Senior forward Joe Simon recorded the first goal of the game for the Fire, ranked No. 7 in the latest Class 2A state coaches’ poll, and Hankinson scored his first of the game at the 11:08 mark of the second frame. 

Senior forward Dylan Hoen and junior forward Ian Bahr scored in the loss for Benilde-St. Margaret’s (3-7-1), while freshman goaltender Carson Limesand made 24 saves.

Game Three: Moorhead 5, Prior Lake 1

Statistically, it appears Carter Randklev could have beaten Prior Lake by himself. 

The senior forward and North Dakota commit scored three goals to lead Moorhead (9-3) to a 5-1 victory over the Lakers on Friday night, giving him four goals and six points in two games during the Tradition Hockey For Life Classic. 

Randklev scored at the 12:08 mark of the first period to begin a stretch of four consecutive goals by the Spuds, ranked No. 8 in the latest Class 2A state coaches’ poll. Senior forward Cole O’Connell and junior defenseman and North Dakota commit Ethan Frisch also scored for the Spuds in that span before Randklev scored his second of the game.

Prior Lake (3-7) got on the board in the second, as defenseman Ty Trachsel tacked on a power-play goal with 17 seconds left in the period. Randklev completed his hat-trick with a goal at the 12:30 mark of the third period. 


Lance Leonard made 10 saves to earn the win for the Spuds.
