12UA: Andover 8, Stillwater 0

With 3:12 to play in the first period, Emma Tammi slammed in a loose puck to put Andover up 1-0 over Stillwater and effectively opened the scoring floodgates for her Husky teammates.

The Huskies would score seven more times en route to an 8-0 win over the Ponies in the finals of the Stillwater Skate of the Roses Tournament, with Josie Hemp leading the way with four goals and an assist.

Isa Goettl scored two goals and handed out a pair of assists for the Huskies, with Tammi and Cailin Mumm chipping in one goal each for Andover.

The win is the 13th consecutive victory for the Huskies, who have yet to allow a goal since a 5-3 win over the Chicago Young Americans on Jan. 13.

Game Note

Stillwater defender Lucy Sainsbury shed her helmet after a pregame huddle and displayed her vocal talents by singing the national anthem before the opening face-off.

10UA: Andover 5, Stillwater 0

After a first period in which Andover scored just once, the Skate for the Roses 10UA title game appeared to be headed for a low-scoring tilt.

The Huskies took the game in the opposite direction, scoring twice in the second period and twice in the third to emerge with the win and the championship by a score of 5-0, with four players tallying goals in the victory.

Brianna Law opened the scoring with that first-period goal for the Huskies, while Courtney Little and Ella Thoreson notched goals in the second frame to push the Huskies' lead to 3-0. Thoreson scored her second of the game early in the third period, and Amelia McQuay tacked on a final goal in the win.

Despite taking the loss, Stillwater goaltender Lily Peterfeso put on a show between the pipes for the Ponies, turning away 29 shots and keeping the score from exploding in Andover's favor.

PWAA: Duluth East 7, Rogers 4

Duluth East cruised to a 7-4 win over Rogers in the PWAA final on the back of a four-goal performance by Grant Winkler on Sunday afternoon in White Bear Lake.

The Royals made a late charge in the second period to tie the game, with Chase Cheslock and Brendan O'Shea scoring late in the frame to pull Rogers within striking distance entering the break. Unfortunately for the Royals, Winkler netted his fourth goal of the game early in the third period to ice the win for the Hounds.

Duluth East earned its way into the championship game by beating White Bear Lake 3-2, Elk River 2-0, and Prior Lake 3-0. The Hounds then dispatched Rosemount 4-3 in the semifinals on Sunday morning. Rogers skated to victories over Hastings 7-1, Rochester 5-2, Wayzata 4-3, and Rochester again in the semifinals by a score of 3-1.

BAA: Osseo-Maple Grove 6, Wayzata 0

According to a YHH staffer, this game was over after the first 13 seconds after Osseo-Maple Grove's Henry Nelson scored on a shot from the point to give the Leafbirds a 1-0 lead that they would carry until the final buzzer while adding five more scores.

The Leafbirds snuffed out any chance of a Trojan comeback attempt with a goal scored with just .1 seconds left on the clock in the first, giving Osseo-Maple Grove a 4-0 lead and essentially clinching the win for the Leafbirds.

Kyle Kukkonen was named as the game's Most Valuable Player after recording two goals and an assist for Osseo-Maple Grove. Kukkonen's most impressive point of the evening came after a three-on-one for the Leafbirds, as the Michigan Tech commit played tic-tac-toe with Justin Janicke and William Matzke before Janicke converted the goal. Although the goal put the Leafbirds up 5-0, Wayzata and Osseo-Maple Grove alike applauded the display of pure skill.

Janicke also finished the game with two goals, and Matzke concluded the win with a goal and three assists for the Leafbirds.
