Section 1AA

Lakeville North 4, Lakeville South 3

Lakeville North continued its dominance over its neighbors to the south with a 4-3 win in the Section 1AA finals, giving the Panthers three wins in three tries over the South Suburban Conference rival Cougars. 

The Cougars scored three times in the third period to force a defensive tightening by the Panthers, with Zach Zemlak scoring twice and Zachary Bauer adding the third goal for No. 2 seed Lakeville South. 

Spencer Schneider scored twice for top-seeded Lakeville North, with Shane Griffin and Blake Brandt each chipping in a single goal. 


Lakeville North edged Lakeville South to claim the 1AA title on Thursday in Rochester.

Section 2A


Senior Thomas Walker had the GWG for the Spartans Thursday

Orono 2, Breck 1 (OT)

Thomas Walker scored in overtime to send Orono to its first state tournament appearance since 2014 with a 2-1 win over upset-minded Breck at Parade Ice Garden.

The No. 1 seed Spartans had a chance to win the game in regulation with a five-on-three powerplay chance, but staunch defense from the sixth-seeded Mustangs sent the game into the extra session. The Mustangs tied the game late in the third period, erasing the 1-0 lead created by Orono's Landon Wittenberg.

Section 3AA

St. Thomas Academy vs. Eastview

Top-seeded St. Thomas Academy rattled off three goals in the third period to earn its second straight trip to the Class AA State Tournament with a 4-1 win over No. 2 seed Eastview at Braemar Arena. 

Eastview took a 1-0 lead over the Cadets early in the second period, a 1-0 deficit that was equaled with a goal from STA's Chase Foley. Luke Herzog scored twice for the Cadets in the third, and Ray Christy added a fourth goal in the win.

Section 5A

Monticello 4, North Branch 1

Jeffrey Henrikson scored twice to lead No. 1 seed Monticello to the Class A State Tournament for the second straight year with a 4-1 win over North Branch. Minnesota-Duluth commit Brady Meyer scored the lone goal for the second-seeded Vikings in the loss.

Section 5AA

Centennial 6, Maple Grove 4

Lucas McGregor scored twice and added an assist to lead Centennial to victory over Northwest Suburban Conference rival Maple Grove and clinch the Section 5AA title. 

In addition to McGregor's output, Hayden Brickner, Andrew Stuart, Will Francis, and Carter Wagner all chipped in single goals to send the Cougars to their first state tournament since 2014. 

Tyler Kostelecky scored twice for Maple Grove, with Trevor Kukkonen and Matthew Jaglo each adding one goal for the No. 2 seed Crimson.

Section 6A


Caleb Strong pounded home this goal Thursday night

Alexandria 3, St. Cloud Cathedral 2 (OT)

No. 2 seed Alexandria upended top-seeded St. Cloud Cathedral and avenged a regular-season loss to the Crusaders with a thrilling 3-2 win in double-overtime on Thursday night. 

Jack Westlund scored the game-winner for the Cardinals, with Caleb Strong and Jakob Stender scoring the first two goals of the game for Alexandria. Strong also assisted in the game-winner, as did Ben Doherty. 

Jack Smith and James Anderson each scored once for the Crusaders.

Section 7AA

Duluth East vs. Andover 

Logan Anderson tipped in a shot from the point to send Duluth East to the Class AA State Tournament with a 3-2 win over No. 2 seed Andover at Amsoil Arena in Duluth. 

Ryder Donovan tied the game for the Hounds with just 1:13 remaining in regulation, erasing the 2-0 lead the Huskies had. Brendan Baker scored the initial goal for the top-seeded Hounds. 

Andover jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Duluth East with goals from Charlie Schoen and Luke Kron early and midway through the second period respectively. 

Section 8A

Thief River Falls 4, East Grand Forks 0

Brady Anderson racked up a hat-trick to lead fourth-seeded Thief River Falls to a resounding 4-0 win over No. 2 seed East Grand Forks. 

Parker Lane also scored in the win for the Prowlers, while Nick Corneliusen made an impressive 32 saves to earn the shutout.
