Edina forward and captain Sammy Walker was honored with the Mr. Hockey Award, presented by the Minnesota Minutemen at the RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul on Sunday afternoon.
Walker is the first Edina player to claim the honor in the program's storied history and is committed to the University of Minnesota. Because of his birth date, Walker was eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the draft's seventh round.
Over a four-year varsity career, Walker totaled 83 goals and 178 points, relying on electric speed and deft stickhandling that made him an offensive force. Walker was named the Star-Tribune's Metro Player of the Year this season after racking up 35 goals and 79 points in his senior season.
The Mr. Hockey Award is given to the outstanding senior high school boys’ hockey player in the state of Minnesota and is selected by a panel of National Hockey League Scouts, Junior Scouts/Coaches and selected media members from around the state.
