St. Thomas Academy's Atticus Kelly took home the Frank Brimsek Award as the state's top senior goalie.

Gopher Commit Is First Hornet Mr. Hockey

Edina forward and captain Sammy Walker was honored with the Mr. Hockey Award, presented by the Minnesota Minutemen at the RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul on Sunday afternoon.

Walker is the first Edina player to claim the honor in the program's storied history and is committed to the University of Minnesota. Because of his birth date, Walker was eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the draft's seventh round.

Over a four-year varsity career, Walker totaled 83 goals and 178 points, relying on electric speed and deft stickhandling that made him an offensive force. Walker was named the Star-Tribune's Metro Player of the Year this season after racking up 35 goals and 79 points in his senior season.

The Mr. Hockey Award is given to the outstanding senior high school boys’ hockey player in the state of Minnesota and is selected by a panel of National Hockey League Scouts, Junior Scouts/Coaches and selected media members from around the state.

STA's Atticus Kelly Claims Frank Brimsek

Atticus Kelly earned the Frank Brimsek Award as Minnesota's top senior goalie in a ceremony that coincided with the Mr. Hockey Award on Sunday afternoon.

Kelly out-dueled fellow finalist Ben Garrity in the Section 3AA finals to send his Cadets to a second consecutive appearance in the Class AA State Tournament and finished his senior season with a record of 23-2-1, a goals-against average of 1.46, a save percentage of .932 and five shutouts. Kelly's play helped guide the Cadets to the Class AA consolation championship.

Kelly is the second Cadet to win the award, with David Zevnik earning the honor in 2013.

His career statistics are highlighted by a record of 51-8-5 and 16 career shutouts.
