On Tuesday, the Wiz Wyatt Award was presented to Hermantown’s Zam Plante, the award’s first winner from an association located farther north than Osseo-Maple Grove.
Plante, a three-sport standout who also excels in baseball and trapshooting, helped lead the Hawks to a record of 35-7-3 and an appearance in the state championship game in March. Plante’s obvious on-ice skills, combined with straight-A’s at Hermantown Middle School and success on the baseball diamond, make him an athlete cut from the well-rounded Wiz Wyatt mold.
"He's ultra-competitive and refuses to lose," Hermantown Peewee AA coach Nick Jones. "You mix that with a respectful and bright kid, there's no doubt his future will be bright too," Jones added.
"Zam is the type of kid that'll accomplish great things in whatever he does."
