The sixth-seeded Royal team beat the No. 1 seed White 7-4 Thursday night to claim the Red Black Championship at Richfield Ice Arena. Burnsville junior forward Jake Inskeep had two goals to pace the Royal squad in the victory.
The first half of the game was played at a frantic pace with six goals being scored - three by each team - in the first 25 minutes. Breck freshman Beau Courneya had a goal and an assist to pace the White in the seesaw affair.
Mound Westonka head coach Jake Hindermann fired up the Royals at halftime and they came out of the gate to score two goals in the first minute, including one by Joe Fodstad in the first six seconds. Fodstad played in the United States Premier Hockey League last year for the Minnesota Mullets. With the score 5-3 and White pressuring, Royal was able to get an important insurance goal by Inskeep when he beat the White goalie Noah Coley top-shelf.
