Team Minnesota will play in the 2018 Brick Invitational this July in Edmonton.
Team Minnesota for the 2018 Brick Invitational Super Novice Hockey Tournament has been announced. The Brick tournament is the most prestigious tournament for 10-year-olds in North America. The 2018 Team Minnesota Brick edition is composed of 13 players from Minnesota in addition to players from Thunder Bay (OT), Tampa Bay, and Atlanta. The team is represented by players brought in from seven different AAA teams.
This will be the first year that Team Minnesota has named a permanent Brick Coach, Billy Hengen, who understands the magnitude of the challenge and opportunity the tournament represents to the players. Hengen led Team Minnesota to an appearance in the semifinals in 2013 with a group of 2003-born players.
Team Minnesota is guaranteed six games through the first five days of the tournament and will face the Chicago Jr. Blackhawks, Team Manitoba, the Toronto Bulldogs, Western Selects, Boston Jr. Bruins, and Team Brick Alberta.
The Toronto Bulldogs took home the title in last season's Brick, topping the B.C. Junior Canucks 6-5 in overtime on Owen Griffin's game-winning goal. Team Minnesota went 4-2 last summer, as goaltender Landon Palmgren earned Most Valuable Player honors with a record of 3-1 and a save percentage of .966.
