As fatigue sets in during the second day of the NOW Prospects Major Combine, the players' dreams may be speckled with visions of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chocolate milk, frenetic puck possession drills, and blurs of maroon and gold.

Thursday's itinerary included a seminar on performance nutrition with expert John Parenti, in which players were encouraged to treat meals and snacks as opportunities to fuel a machine, not just an arbitrary activity.

With new knowledge of when to consume sports drinks and how to recover between games, Maroon squared off with Gold and White took on Grey, with both games taking on less of a scoring tone than the barn-burners played on Wednesday.

Devin Cardenas netted the game-winning goal at the buzzer for Maroon in the first game, banging in a loose puck and upending the squad that hung 16 goals on Grey in the previous game. The goal capped a slick two-goal comeback by Maroon, as Grant Kohnen tied the game at 3-3 after Gold scored three straight. Scoring for Gold were Tate Pritchard, Charlie Ortman, and Aidan Willis. Cardenas' game-winner was his second of the game, with Carter Krenke rounding out the scoresheet for Maroon.

Landen Gunderson continued his torrid scoring pace in White's 8-4 win over Grey in the second game of the day, scoring three times and assisting on two other scores. White teammates Ty Tuccitto made his presence known on his first day of combine participation, netting a pair of goals, and Wyatt Olson finished with three points on a goal and two assists. Gavin Black and Finn Brink also notched goals for White in the win. Austin Burnevik carried Grey with three of the team's four goals, with the other goal credited to Kyle Henke.

The players have just one more game at Mariucci Arena before the combine shifts east to Stillwater's LumberYard facility on Friday afternoon, and the competition moves into its three-on-three portion.

Players To Watch

Matthew Vander Vort, White

The crafty forward pairs well with just about any forward line combination, utilizing soft hands and strength along the boards. Had two assists on Thursday.

Carter Krenke, Maroon

Smooth stick-handling and a laser-like shot afford Krenke multiple scoring chances, especially entering the offensive zone.

Grant Kohnen, Maroon

Kohnen scored the game-tying goal for Maroon on Thursday, grinding his way to that goal and an assist with relentless two-way play.

Ian Ness, Gold

Rarely makes mistake on the backend, and runs a crisp breakout with little-wasted movement.

Austin Burnevik, Grey

Burnevik netted a hat-trick on Thursday, thanks in large part to his shot and nose for the net.

Grant Kohnen, Maroon.
