The Toronto Bulldogs claimed their second consecutive Brick Invite title on Sunday.
Russ Tyler may have invented the shot and coined the term "knucklepuck" during the 1994 movie D2: The Mighty Ducks, but Jude Bray perfected the shot on Sunday afternoon.
After collecting a pass from his defensive partner along the Toronto Pro Hockey blueline midway through overtime of Sunday's Brick championship game, Bray flung a shot toward the Pro Hockey net, and the wobbling disc found the back of the goal and touched off a gold-clad frenzy.
Toronto Pro Hockey forced overtime when Zachary Nyman went coast-to-coast and did his best Bobby Orr impression, netting a goal while flying forward at the same time to tie the game at 1-1 in the third period and shifting momentum squarely to his team's side of the ice.
Fortunately for the Bulldogs, goaltender Cruz Reznik and a staunch defense held off the late Pro Hockey charge, sending the game to its thrilling conclusion in the extra session.
Javian Nei scored the first goal of the game for the Bulldogs, knocking in a loose puck while skating hard to the net off a centering feed from Callum Croskery.
The win gives the Bulldogs their second consecutive Brick Invitational crown, and are now in position for a three-peat, a feat achieved by just one other team in the 29-year Brick history; the Toronto Bulldogs (2011-2013).
