Ryan Wallin's 33 saves paced GP to their 20th win on the season

BEL champion stops SSM, wins 18th straight

Charlie Stramel scored and celebrated for GP Friday night in Faribault

Great Plains traveled to Faribault to take on Shattuck-St. Mary's Friday for the second year in a row, this time winning 3-1. Jimmy Clark and Charlie Stramel teamed together again to account for all three of the Great Plains goals. Clark set up Zam Plante in the first and Stramel in the second and added an empty-net goal to pace the black-and-tan to a very entertaining win.

Facing a newly formed set of Sabres, Great Plains got off to a fast start when 2018 Wiz Wyatt winner Zam Plante beat Shattuck-St. Mary's goalie Michael D'Orazio on a high wrist shot a minute into the first period. Shattuck-St.Mary's would come back strong out hustling and out chancing the visitors for most of the first period.

Great Plains flipped the script in the second period, controlling play when they needed and defending the speedy Sabres. Rosemount's Charlie Stramel beat D'Orazio with six minutes to go in the second when he was given way too much time and way too much space to give Great Plains a 2-0 lead after two.

Jimmy Clark lead all scorers Friday with a goal and two assists

After being snake-bitten by Ryan Wallin all night, with a combination of outstanding saves and some good fortune. Shattuck-St. Mary's got on the board when Woodbury's Ty Henricks got loose for one of seven breakaway attempts on Wallin. In this instance, Henricks beat Wallin low glove side to cut the Great Plains lead in half.

Both teams would battle and have their chances in the third. D'Orazio came up big stopping two Great Plains odd-man rushes. Wallin and his best friend the crossbar would stifle the Sabres and their partisan student section a few times in the final minutes.

In the closing seconds, Stramel closed out the game when he controlled the puck in his own zone and found Clark for an easy empty-net goal to end the game.

This Ty Henricks third period goal cut the GP lead to 2-1.

Players to Watch

1. Charlie Stramel, Great Plains - played like he was possessed Friday. Moved the puck well, was disruptive to SSM plans all night and had his hand in GP's final two goals.

2. Ryan Wallin, Great Plains - attacked the play all night, never seemed rattled by the heavy Sabre pressure Friday.

3. Kaden Spaniol, Shattuck - made a few great defensive plays...was very opportunistic with and without the puck.

4. (Insert Great Plains D-Man here) - all five Great Plains defensemen made their mark Friday. Owen Hendrikson and Tristan Sarlsand wore the aggressive badges while Zach Sondreal, Kyle Henke and Reed Kluender buckled down the back end.

5. Anthony Yu, Shattuck - the California native showed signs of speed and high-end skill. Will make a big impact for SSM this year.
