Both Upper Midwest High School Elite All-Star teams advance to semifinals, as do Shattuck-St. Mary's and Red Bull Salzburg.

Minnesota Red, Minnesota White Advance

Game One: Minnesota Red 4, MDHL 1

Minnesota Red scored twice in the third period to pull away from the Michigan Developmental Hockey League for a 4-1 win in the first quarterfinal on Friday night in New Hope, outshooting the MDHL 28-17 along the way.

Logan Anderson started the scoring with a top-shelf wrist-shot on a breakaway in the first period, quickly followed by a goal from Frederick Hunter Paine to extend the Minnesota Red lead to 2-0. MDHL's Jacob Onstott buried a centering feed from James Jentz to pare the Minnesota Red lead to 2-1 entering the second.

Bennett Zmolek and Ethan Benz scored 61 seconds apart in the third period to give Minnesota Red its insurmountable lead, while goaltender Carter Clafton turned away all seven shots he faced in 30 minutes of play.

Game Two: Minnesota White 4, Stanstead College 1

No, Stanstead College is not a "college" per se. The boarding school located in Stanstead, Quebec made the trek to New Hope and quickly met a speedy and motivated Minnesota White squad.

Mike Koster opened the scoring early in the first period for Minnesota White, which received a supplementary goal from Will Hillman in the final three minutes of the first frame. Hillman deftly reached out and deflected a shot by Minnesota White's Grant Docter that beat Stanstead goaltender Thomas Scarfone cleanly.

Minnesota White would stretch its lead to 4-0 entering the third period thanks to goals by Liam Malmquist and Austen Humphrey, two of the Elite League's overall leading scorers. Malmquist totaled 11 goals and 37 points in 24 games during the Elite League's regular and playoff seasons, while Humphrey recorded ten goals and 28 points in 23 games.  Gregory LaPointe scored the lone goal for Stanstead College, while Scarfone made 42 saves on 46 shots in the losing effort.

Liam Malmquist helped lead Minnesota White to a 4-1 win over Stanstead College on Friday night with a goal and assist.

Shattuck-St. Mary's To Face Red Bull Salzburg

Game Three: Shattuck-St. Mary's 5, Tier 1 Elite 0

Even with a slight respite during a scoreless second period, Shattuck-St. Mary's trounced a collection of Tier I skaters 5-0 on Friday night, powered by a three-goal third period and a 12-save shutout by goaltender Alex Kozic.

Mackie Samoskevich and Luke Beerman traded even-strength goals for the Sabres in the first period, as Samoskevich launched a perfect shot past Tier I Elite's Zach Stern from the slot for a 1-0 Sabre lead with 2:56 left in the first. Beerman's goal would come just 32 seconds later on assists by Samoskevich and Nik Norman. That helper was Norman's second of the period.

Scott Morrow, Beerman, and Dylan Schneider scored in succession for the Sabres in the third period, cementing the win. Schneider also picked up two assists in the victory, as did fellow forward Hunter Karpman. Surprisingly, Shattuck-St. Mary's cruised to success without a single point from Brendan Brisson, the Sabres' leading scorer during the Elite League season with nine goals and 27 points in just 15 games.

Game Four: Red Bull Salzburg 5, Chicago Mission 18U 4 (OT)

John Jason Peterka came to a snow-spraying halt at the top of the right face-off circle in the Chicago Mission zone. A slight hesitation to high right bought him enough real estate from the Chicago defenseman, as Peterka stepped left and fired a bullet over Mission goaltender Asher Motew's blocker-side shoulder to lift Red Bull Salzburg to a 5-4 overtime win to close out Friday night.

Peterka's overtime goal spoiled a fabulous performance by Chicago Mission's Michael Urtis, who tallied a hat-trick and assist in the hard-luck loss. In addition to Peterka, who scored twice, Red Bull got goals from Tim Harnisch, Filip Varejcka, and Oleksii Myklukha.

Red Bull Salzburg will face Shattuck-St. Mary's in Saturday's semifinal round at 3 p.m.

John Jason Peterka (33) scores in overtime to send Red Bull Salzburg to the semifinals of the IIT.
