Bantam B Preview

Pool A

Edina Green enters The Gobbler with a record of 6-2-2, with both losses coming in the Hornets’ last four games. The Hornets rebounded with a 7-1 win over St. Louis Park before tying Wayzata Blue 2-2 before tournament play.

Unbeaten since Nov. 7, Prior Lake has gone 2-0-3 in the last two weeks, picking up ties against Wayzata Blue, Edina White, and Minneapolis Orange. The Lakers have been shut out just once this season, in the second game of the 2018-2019 campaign, a 3-0 loss to Lakeville South.

Since losing 4-1 to Prior Lake, Osseo-Maple Grove has gone 3-0-1 in its last four games, earning wins over Minneapolis Purple, Rogers, and Delano before tying St. Louis Park 2-2.

Strong defense and goaltending have been the calling cards for Lakeville South this season, with the Cougars allowing just 18 goals in their first nine games and posting three shutouts along the way.

Pool B

With a record of 9-0-2, Minnetonka sits at No. 1 in the YHH Staff Rankings and enters the tournament as a strong contender for the title. The Skippers’ two ties came against quality teams in Eastview and Roseville, and the defending Gobbler champions have outscored opponents 30-11 since those draws.

One of the latest wins for Minnetonka has come against Pool B foe St. Michael-Albertville, which has lost three of its last four games. The Knights have been bitten by the narrow-defeat bug, with four of the team’s losses being by two goals or less.

Lakeville North has mildly rebounded since losing its first four games of the season, winning twice in the past five contests. Among those three losses was a seesaw battle against Lakeville South, with the Panthers falling 8-6 to the Cougars.

Mahtomedi rounds out Pool B, and the Zephyrs have played comparatively fewer games, entering the tournament with a 4-0-1 mark. The season-opening tie against Anoka set the stage for the Zephyrs to win their next four games, with the run culminating in the No. 5 spot in the latest version of the NOW Rankings.

Pool C

Stillwater Black had its ten-game unbeaten streak interrupted by a 4-2 loss to District 2 rival Roseville on Nov. 17, but the Ponies still wield a 9-2-1 record. A promising sign for the Ponies is their ability to win in close games, with five of the team’s nine victories coming by two goals or less. Among those wins was a 3-2 triumph over Pool C contemporary Woodbury Black.

Shakopee has yet to win a game this season, going 0-8 while being outscored 44-11 through those eight games. After starting the season 3-1, Woodbury Royal has since slipped to 3-7, losing its last six games.

An 8-1 loss to Chaska-Chanhassen and a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mahtomedi are the only blemishes on Edina White’s resume, as the Hornets have also earned local bragging rights after beating Edina Green 6-4 on Nov. 10. Edina White is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest YHH Staff Rankings.

Peewee B Preview

Pool A

Edina Green is one of the hottest Peewee B teams in the state entering the holiday weekend, winning five straight games and eight of its last nine. While running its record to 10-1-1, the Hornets managed to win their previous four games all by a single goal.

After the starting the season unbeaten after four games, Shakopee has dropped its last two contests, falling to Chaska-Chanhassen 9-0 and Edina Green 1-0. The Sabres have scored three goals or more just once in six games this season.

Tops in the NOW Rankings, Osseo-Maple Grove, has won its last three games by a combined scored of 21-1, and the Leafbirds have earned three shutouts through their first seven games of the season.
Outside of a 4-0 win over Mounds View/Irondale on Nov. 17,

Woodbury Royal has lost four of its last five games, a stretch of losses that directly followed a string of six straight wins. On the plus side for the Predators, in two of those losses, they racked up four goals against quality opponents in Mahtomedi and Stillwater Black.

Pool B

Edina White started the year with five straight wins, including an impressive stretch of three consecutive shutouts. Since that run, the Hornets have gone 1-1-2, and are coming off a 4-1 loss to Eden Prairie on Nov. 18.

When Prior Lake wins, as its done five times in its first nine games, the Lakers are likely to light up the scoreboard. The Lakers have totaled seven or more goals in four of their five victories, including a resounding 11-2 win over Farmington on Nov. 17.

Andover has started the year with a close loss to Anoka and a 1-1 tie with Rogers Blue. No score has been entered yet for the Huskies’ game against Rogers White, scheduled for Nov. 17.

Champlin Park’s first win of the season came on Oct. 28, and the Rebels have since gone 1-1. The Rebels have shown they can score as of late, recording 13 goals in their last three games after scoring just five times in their first three games.

Pool C

Since a 5-4 loss to Orono on Oct. 24, Chaska-Chanhassen has gone 8-0-2, en route to outscoring opponents by a combined mark of 73-17 through 12 games this season. The Stormhawks won three straight games by identical scores of 9-0 before tying Prior Lake in their final match before The Gobbler.

Minnetonka Black will see plenty of familiar faces during the tournament, having faced four teams in The Gobbler field during the regular season. Three of those teams, Chaska-Chanhassen, Edina Green, and Pool C rival Mahtomedi have managed to defeat the Skippers.

Mahtomedi has stormed its way to a 9-1-1 record through 11 games this season, scoring four or more goals in nine of those 11 games. The Zephyrs enter the tournament riding a six-game winning streak, punctuated by a 10-1 win over White Bear Lake Orange on Nov. 18.
