Hunter Newhouse (10) celebrates with his Minnetonka teammates after scoring his second goal of Saturday night's win.

Newhouse Powers Skippers To Win

Hunter Newhouse scored his first two varsity goals as Minnetonka dominated Lakeville North for 51 minutes en route to a 4-0 victory over the Panthers.

The Skippers bobbed and weaved through the Lakeville North defense to take a 1-0 lead into the second period, with Newhouse’s first goal being the difference. Newhouse scored early in the second frame to extend the lead to 2-0, spinning and firing from close range in the slot with Lakeville North goaltender Will Johnson caught out of position.

A.J. Kittelson and Braedon Lacomy added goals in the first half of the third period to cement the win for the Skippers, the defending Class 2A state champion and current No. 1 in the latest state coaches’ poll. Lacomy also added two assists in the win.

Lakeville North (0-2) lost first-line forward Shane Griffin on Friday night and senior forward Sam Enebak during Saturday night’s games, both to injuries. Sophomore forward and yet another critical player Caden Smith did not suit up for Saturday’s loss, injured in the Friday night game.

Will Johnson finished with 36 saves for the Panthers, while Glockner earned the shutout for the Skippers (2-0) with 12 stops.
